Happy New Year!
2. January, 2012Happy New Year, everyone!
Don’t worry, this one will be over even faster than the last one 🙂
So Help me Jobs…
26. December, 2011One day, Apple might go one step further and start to shape their customers to their liking. They know best, right? Watch this.
“I have nothing to hide.” “Then why do you have curtains?“
How To Get Technical Support – by I Can Barely Draw
14. November, 2011Woes of Too Much RAM
12. October, 2011Usually, you can’t have too much memory in your PC but there is one exception: When you have lots but not enough.
Example: I have Eclipse (1.5GB), Chrome (1.6GB), Firefox (1GB), VirtualBox (2GB) and a Maven (1.3GB)Â build running. Plus 20 console windows.
That’s roughly 8GB in total which is the amount of real RAM I have installed.
The problem arises when the real memory is exceeded. I do have 8GB of swap but do you have any idea how long it takes to swap out 1-2GB of RAM to a harddisk?
Ages.
When you have lots of RAM, you don’t think about starting something else which might need lots of memory like GIMP or a video editor or starting WebSphere. All of a sudden, your whole computer freezes and you think “WTF? Did it crash? What’s going on?”
A lot of RAM can be bad 🙂

Futuristic Fountain
14. September, 2011Here is an amazing example of a 21st century fountain:
Makes me feel like someone during the age when fountains were invented.

8. September, 2011At least for a couple of days until children start to run through the cube farms screaming at the top of their lungs: “Format C: Yes!”
Finally: M$ Improves File Operations
1. September, 2011Good things need time. Even if they hurt you every day. File operations (copy, move, delete) on Windows are such a pain.
The damn thing takes half an hour to found out how many files to delete and then deletes them in a couple of seconds. Or the old joke “How long will it take?” Or copying two folders with the same name over each other (computer experts call that “merging”).
Well, M$ listened (they always do – they just rarely care) and after only … calculating … 29 years, they’re going to fix it! Yay ^_^
PS: Linux does it this way since a couple of years. Not sure about Mac. So another thing that M$ reluctantly “invented” after everyone else had it for years.
SCO vs Linux: Game Over

Of course, this is SCO … I might be a little surprised if they didn’t try to appeal to the US Supreme Court 😉
SCO or how to waste millions of dollars for naught.
